ORANGEVILLE - Tessa Janecke, a sixth-grader from Orangeville and a Monroe Avalanche PeeWee and Bantam hockey player, qualified for the Chicago Bears NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Team Championship to be held Dec. 5 in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Janecke began her quest Aug. 28, when she won the local competition at Aquin High School in Freeport. On Oct. 4, she traveled to Rockford and won her age division at the sectional competition.

Janecke will be participating in a two-day event during which she will compete at the Walter Payton Center and then participate at Soldier Field during a pregame passing exhibition. The winner of each age division will be introduced on the field to the crowd award during the Bears vs. San Francisco 49ers game and will have their scores submitted to the NFL. Once all teams have completed their team championship, the scores will be ranked and the top-four finishers nationwide in each age group will receive a trip to the national finals Jan. 3 at the Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans game.

Tessa is the daughter of Rooney and Kari Janecke of Orangeville and is the granddaughter of Tom and Rhonda Wonders of Darlington and Tom and Sue Janecke of Apple River, Illinois.
