COLUMBUS - With two players missing, the New Glarus softball team battled back with a seven-run fifth inning before falling to Columbus 18-7 on Friday.
The Cardinals scored four runs off Emma Jackson in the first inning. Jackson later came back and struck out the side. Jackson led the Glarner Knights going 3-for-3 at the plate. New Glarus senior Brooke Klassy was 2-for-3.
"It's been a long time since we have batted around the order," New Glarus coach Robert Wahl said. "It was a good sign that we were not giving up."
New Glarus (0-3, 0-2 Capitol South) will host Faith Christian on Monday.
