PECATONICA - Pecatonica junior Drew Schliem knocked down three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help the Vikings build a lead they would not relinquish as they lifted their record above .500 in a 77-61 win Tuesday over visiting Argyle.
After a close first quarter, Pecatonica saw five of its players score points in the second quarter to take a 40-24 lead into halftime.
"A lot of people contributed in the second quarter," Pecatonica assistant coach Eli Fitzsimons said. "It was pretty well balanced."
Schliem led all scorers with 20 points, and Zach Schilling and A.J. Hendrickson contributed 17 and 15 points, respectively.
"Everybody just shared the ball. It was the best we've played all year as far as being unselfish," Fitzsimons said. "We did a good job of finding the hot guy when they were hot."
With the win, Pecatonica improves to 6-5, 3-1 Six Rivers East.
Fitzsimons said the way the Vikings came through Tuesday bodes well for the team going forward. "We had kind of struggled in the second halves, but in the 3rd quarter we matched their intensity, and then in the 4th we hit our free throws. ... We hadn't always been able to do that."
