MONROE - Monroe senior Jon Becker was named first team Badger South All-Conference as a defensive back and he was selected to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Region team at the same position.

The southwest all-region team is selected by the WBCA and consists of players from the Badger South, Badger North, Big Eight, Six Rivers, SWAL, Ridge and Valley and Southwest Wisconsin Conferences. He also received second team all-conference honors at running back. Becker was one of six all-conference players for the Cheesemakers, who finished 3-6 - 3-3 in the Badger South - and just missed qualifying for the playoffs. Four of the Cheesemakers' six losses came to teams that played in the state quarterfinals including semifinalists Waunakee and Madison Edgewood.

"Jon is an outstanding football player and is well deserving of every one of these awards," Monroe coach Curt Miller said. "He was our team leader in rushing, return yards, scoring, interceptions, forced fumbles and big hits. He is the first Monroe player to be selected as an All-Region player in almost a decade."

There were four other area players who received all-region honors. Brodhead-Juda senior Joey Jordan was all-region at defensive end, Darlington senior Brandon Hardyman and Brodhead-Juda senior Trenton Jordan were both named all-region at defensive back, and Brodhead-Juda senior Jesse DeLorme was all-region at running back and inside linebacker.

Monroe sophomore Ryan Hughes was second team all-conference at linebacker. The Cheesemakers had three players named all-conference honorable mention: seniors Colin Lehman (linebacker), Cameron Elmer (defensive end) and Alex Dahlk (wide receiver).

"Ryan Hughes earning second team honors in the Badger Conference is outstanding, considering he was the smallest linebacker amongst the candidates in the Badger South and only a sophomore," Miller said. "We look for big things to come from Ryan."

Miller credited Lehman, Elmer and Dahlk for their play in their final seasons.

"Cameron, Colin and Alex all received honorable mention, but were all close to being second team," Miller said. "Each one of them made significant improvement during their four years in the program."
