CLINTON - Monroe sophomore Lexi Hilliard scored a game-high 18 points and made four 3-pointers as the Cheesemakers used some long-distance shooting to knock off Clinton in a non-conference game 52-31 Monday.

Monroe (6-8, 1-4 Badger South) led just 20-15 at the half. Hilliard made a trio of 3-pointers to start the third quarter to spark a 15-2 Cheesemakers' run that gave Monroe a 35-19 lead.

"Tonight was going to be a game where we had a chance if we played well," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "I was just happy we had a good start to that second half. I thought we did a nice job in second half passing the ball and finding our open teammates. Defensively, we were able to do our job. So it was a nice win."

The Cheesemakers outscored the Cougars 14-3 in the fourth quarter. Monroe senior Alacia Keegan scored 14 points and made two 3-pointers.

Monroe will play at Stoughton at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

"We just keep talking about how we can keep improving," Mathiason said. "We need to take what we did tonight and keep getting better. Stoughton is going to be a big challenge; they beat us by 26 the first time, so we have our work cut out for us to be ready for that game on Saturday."
