MONROE - Three area wrestlers are looking to medal in the WIAA Division 3 state tournament. Both Black Hawk-Darlington's Kolbe Ubersox (132) and Tyler Mosley (170) enter the state tournament with big aspirations.

Ubersox, ranked fifth at 132 in Division 3, is making his second straight trip to state. Ubersox (40-3) will wrestle ninth-ranked Shiocton junior Sawyer Theobald (21-6) in a preliminary match today. If he wins, Ubersox would face Horicon junior Bill Condon (36-10), who is ranked sixth, in a quarterfinal match Friday. Ubersox didn't win a match at state last year.

"I always think everyone's goal is to make the podium," Black Hawk-Darlington co-coach Willy Chambers said. "I think he has a chance to medal."

Mosley (24-18), ranked 12th in Division 3, will wrestle seventh-ranked junior Carter Merth (34-10) of Spring Valley-Elmwood in a preliminary match today. If Mosley wins, he would advance to a quarterfinal match Friday to take on Coleman senior Jordan Blanchard (36-3), who is ranked second.

"I think both have wrestled well and are grounded," Chambers said of Ubersox and Mosley. "They will give it their best shot."

Chambers credited Mosley for his work ethic and his unique style of wrestling.

"He has a very strong core," Chambers said. "He throws his hips in a lot of ways and in positions a lot of wrestlers wouldn't be able to overcome. He pulls off a lot of moves a lot of wrestlers wouldn't be able to make because his core is so strong."

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Prestan Rosenstiel (182), ranked 10th in Division 3, enters his first state tournament as an underdog. Rosensteil (23-12) will wrestle fifth-ranked Edgar sophomore Will Raatz (33-4) in a preliminary match today. If he wins, Rosenstiel would move on to a quarterfinal match Friday to face top-ranked Boyceville senior James Palmer (41-1).

"It's obvious at this level that anything can happen," Chambers said. "It's a little more even at the state competition. I think whoever comes out ready to go and focused to win will walk off with his hand raised."
