MONROE - As a first baseman, Monroe's Kramer Henning looks forward to playing the same position as Prince Fielder at Miller Park.

Henning was named to the American Legion State All-Star team recently and will play in the 40th annual All-Star game Sunday, Aug. 14.

"It's an honor," Henning said. "I still have to work hard to get better."

Henning finished the regular Senior Legion season hitting .409 with two home runs and 20 RBIs. He plans to tryout for the MATC baseball team in the spring.

"Hopefully, I can see some good competition so I can get used to that," he said. "I want to go in there and do the best I can to the best of my ability."

Henning went 4 for 5 and had two RBIs in Monroe's 4-0 win over Racine Thursday in the Class AAA Region 7 Tournament in Janesville. He's looking forward to the chance to be a player instead of a spectator at Miller Park. Henning is one of 54 players selected to play in the All-Star game. The game will be played after the Brewers game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brewers lead the Pirates and Cardinals by one game in the NL Central.

"It will be really exciting because all of my family will be there," Henning. "I get to play in Prince's footsteps."

It marks the third straight year that Monroe will have a player in the All-Star game. Last year, second baseman Taylor Riese played and two years ago Mike Demianiuk played.

Henning isn't the only Monroe player who will play in a featured game: Drew Nafzger was selected to play in the Senior Legion All-Star game July 31 at Marshall. Nafzger led Monroe in hitting to finish the regular season (.441) and he had one home run and 19 RBIs.

"They both deserve it," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said.
