MADISON - Monroe's top tennis duo had an early exit from the state tennis tournament, losing to an unranked yet talented East Troy team.

Seniors Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire (22-4) lost to Paige Kloth and Abi Goode (23-2) 6-4, 6-4 despite being the only doubles team from a public school to be awarded one of the top eight seeds.

"In the first set it was very close the whole way through," Cheesemaker's coach Brad Saugstad said. "It really came down to a few shots that they normally wouldn't miss."

Saugstad said he thought there was a bit of a letdown to start the second set. By the time the two got back on track they had already dug themselves a large hole.

"In the second set they played from behind the whole time," Saugstad said. "East Troy was probably the best team we've faced all year."
