MONROE - Grafton's Taylor Snider scored four goals to power the Blackhawks to an 11-3 win over the Monroe boys hockey co-op in a tournament on Saturday.
Grafton had an 8-0 lead before Monroe's Dennis Neary scored a goal on an assist by Tyler Johnson at 8:02 in the second period. Johnson added a third-period goal. Monroe freshman Joe Wyss scored a goal on an assist from Colby Smith late in the third period.
"We were missing one of our starters and two of our starters were sitting out the first period for other reasons," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "Starting in the second, we started coming together as a team and played very well in the third period. My assistant coach and I are calling it a strategic moral loss."
Monroe goaltender Dan Guilliams had 48 saves. The Avalanche were outshot 59-16.
With the loss, Monroe drops to 0-12. The Avalanche are averaging 0.83 goals per game and are giving up eight goals per game.
The Avalanche's second game against Madison La Follette was called when the Zamboni broke down. Smith said Monroe is looking to reschedule the home game against La Follette. Monroe will play Madison La Follette at Stoughton on Thursday.
