MONROE - One of the Cheesemakers' best shots at a medal will come from Traiten Gor at 220 pounds. Gorr enters the state tournament with a 38-2 record and ranked No. 5 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online poll.
Gorr placed fourth at state last year at 220. He's looking to add more hardware in his final season.
"It does have a different feeling because I have been there before," Gorr said. "I know the atmosphere. It will be emotional because I know it will be the last tournament I wrestle."
Gorr will face Lomira junior Allan Klink (31-16) in a preliminary match Thursday. If he wins that match, Gorr would face seventh-ranked Amery senior Eli Newton (29-6) in a quarterfinal match.
The top contenders for a state title at 220 include Tomahawk senior Dane Borchardt (42-2), who won a state championship last year, and Dodgeville's top-ranked Brady Wetter (26-0). Gorr could face third-ranked Borchardt in a semifinal Friday.
"My goal is to make it to the finals and be there Saturday night," Gorr said.
The only two losses for Gorr this year have come against Wetter. Gorr had a lead on Wetter in a sectional tournament at Richland Center before being pinned.
"I just have to take advantage of his weaknesses," Gorr said. "One of his shoulders was bothering him at the sectional. I didn't take advantage of that big weakness."
