MONROE - Two Monroe baseball players received postseason academic awards recently.
Monroe senior Garrett Gogin was named to the second-team South Central District 5 All-District team. Gogin hit .463 this year with one home run and a team-high 32 RBI.
Gogin was also named academic all-district along with senior teammate Jaron Kuester.
A coach has to nominate a player with a grade-point-average of 3.5 or higher to be selected as academic all-district. Kuester hit .416 this season with three home runs and 27 RBI.
Gogin also earned an academic all-state honor. To qualify for the academic all-state honor, a coach nominates a player for the achievement with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
