NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus girls basketball team couldn't build on its first-quarter momentum and lost to Columbus 39-25 on Tuesday night.
The Glarner Knights (2-2) led 8-4 after the first quarter and Columbus led by just three points at halftime. However, the Knights were outscored 20-9 in the second half.
"We outscored them in the first quarter, which was great," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "They went to a 1-2-2 press that got us all out of sorts. It's the little things we have to fix."
New Glarus junior Anya Schween and senior Alycia Atwell each scored six points.
Angie Miller scored 16 points for Columbus.
Monticello 44, Pecatonica 31
MONTICELLO - Marissa Berg and Becky Nelson combined to score 27 points to lift the Ponies in a Six Rivers East Conference opener.
Monticello (4-2, 1-0 Six Rivers East) got 16 points from Berg and 11 from Nelson.
The Ponies broke the game open by outscoring the Vikings 16-3 in the second quarter.
Junior Lizzy Britt scored 10 points to lead Pecatonica (0-5, 0-1). Fellow junior Michelle Francois added seven points.
Barneveld 41, Argyle 16
BARNEVELD - The Eagles won their fourth straight game, cruising past the Orioles.
Barneveld (4-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 20-6 halftime lead it would never relinquish. Barneveld's Madison Laube scored 10 points to lead the Eagles. Argyle senior Danielle Treuthardt scored five points to pace the Orioles.
Fennimore 65, Darlington 47
FENNIMORE - The Redbirds dropped their second straight Southwest Wisconsin Activities League game.
Fennimore, ranked fifth in the Associated Press Division 4 poll, outscored the Redbirds 19-8 in the second quarter. The Eagles shot 24 of 31 at the foul line compared to 12 of 21 for the Redbirds (2-2, 1-2 SWAL).
Darlington junior Cassidy Chambers scored 17 points and senior Amy Jorgenson added 12.
