IOWA-GRANT - With its leading scorer laboring through foul trouble, Darlington's girls hoops club got downright defensive in a 41-31 victory over Iowa-Grant Tuesday night.
Junior sharpshooter Cassie Fink finished with four fouls and missed significant time as a result, but the Redbirds (12-5, 8-3 SWAL) used a stingy 9-2 third quarter to all but wrap up a SWAL victory over the Panthers (2-15, 1-11).
"It was a real rag-tag game all night long and defensively we were effective throughout," Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said.
Darlington's Katie Martin led all scorers with 12 points. The Redbirds will battle second-place Mineral Point (10-2) Thursday night at home.
Brodhead 76, Palmyra-Eagle 29
Paige Hoeper isn't about to take losing her last shot at a Rock Valley title lying down.
The Cardinals senior captain hit six 3s in the first half of play and scored a game-high 22 points as Brodhead bounced back convincingly from a loss the night before to Parkview.
Brodhead led 40-10 at the half and got 10 scorers into the book.
