MONTICELLO - The Monticello girls basketball team fell to undefeated Benton-Shullsburg Saturday afternoon, 54-38.
Benton-Shullsburg took control of the game from the start. The Zephyrs led 12-6 after the first quarter, and expanded their lead in the second to take a 31-14 lead into the half. After losing the third quarter, the Ponies outscored Benton-Shullsburg 15-12 in the fourth.
Monticello was led in scoring by Maggie Edge, who scored 11. One of the biggest problems for the Ponies was slowing down Benton-Shullsburg guard Blaire Lutes: Lutes led all scorers with 23 points.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Monticello. The Ponies will look to rebound on Tuesday night when they host Pecatonica.
