ARGYLE - Black Hawk's girls basketball team looked nearly flawless in its 75-24 victory Tuesday over Argyle.

Paige Butler scored 19 points, Kim Wellnitz had 13 and Katie Place added 10 for the Warriors.

Black Hawk (8-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter, and held a 43-14 halftime lead.

Argyle (1-7, 0-4) couldn't overcome the deficit, and the Warriors kept pounding the ball inside and out.

Black Hawk hit six 3-pointers, but finished just 5-of-10 from the free throw line. All the other points came from in and around the paint.

Freshman Danielle Truethardt led Argyle with nine points.

On Friday, Black Hawk hosts Albany (6-5, 3-2) while Argyle travels to Monticello (2-6, 1-3).

In other games Tuesday:

DARLINGTON 47, IOWA-GRANT 29

LIVINGSTON - Ashley Martin scored 20 points as the Redbirds (5-3, 1-3 SWAL) fended off Iowa-Grant (1-7, 0-4) on the road Tuesday night.

"It was a physical game, and not a lot of fouls were called," Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said. "We struggled at times, but then got a hold of ourselves."

The Redbirds led 15-6 after the first quarter and 26-14 at halftime.

"Ashley's 20 points were big for us. She was there all game," Cohen said.

Darlington had eight players score, including a huge boost from Kelsi Blosch down the stretch. Blosch scored all seven of her points in the final two minutes.

"She really sealed the deal for us at the end. That was huge," Cohen said of his senior's performance.

Darlington travels to Fennimore on Friday.

JUDA 52, BELOIT TURNER 29

JUDA - The Panthers (5-3, 1-3 Six Rivers East) had four girls in double figures and used a 31-10 second-half spurt to down Beloit Turner (0-7, 0-5 Rock Valley South).

"They played zone in the first half and we made some adjustments," coach Curtis Brown said. "We also switched up out on defense - and that was basically the end of the game."

Heather Boeke led all scorers with 14 points. Rachel Bartels had 12, Brittany Riese had 11 points and freshman Ellen Kiser added 10 for Juda.

The Panthers host Barneveld (6-1, 3-0) on Friday.

BARNEVELD 61, MONTICELLO 37 BARNEVELD - The Ponies held tight stayed close for a half, but Barneveld isn't a top-ranked team in the state for nothing.

The Eagles, ranked No. 5 in the state by the Associated Press, led only 25-20 after the first half. But in the third quarter, things changed dramatically. Barneveld outscored Monticello 24-10 and all but shut the door on the Ponies.

"In the third quarter we just didn't come ready to play," Monticello head coach Paul Wedig said. "We made mental mistakes and had turnovers. Barneveld is the kind of team that will turn those mistakes into points."

Mary Hershberger scored 12 points for the Ponies and Sarah Silver added 10.

"The biggest thing we did well in the first half was handle pressure and we made solid passes. We also cut to the passing lane very well," Wedig said.
