GIRLS BASKETBALL: Redbirds, Cardinals, Vikings pick up wins

DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team rolled to a 69-53 win over Southwestern on Tuesday night with a dominating performance.

The Redbirds outscored Southwestern 19-13 in the first quarter and led 37-30 at halftime. The Redbirds had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Kelsey Fink's 19 points. Darlington senior Cassie Fink scored 14 points and Katie Martin added 12. Kari Blosch chipped in 10.

Darlington (10-6, 5-5 SWAL) didn't miss a beat despite Ashley Martin battling foul trouble.

The Redbirds made 10 3-pointers, including three by Kelsey Fink.

"Our perimeter kids really picked it up," Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said. We shot the ball well. That was a big key."

BRODHEAD 55, BELOIT TURNER 32

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals jumped out to a 16-2 first quarter lead and routed Beloit Turner.

Brodhead (12-3, 11-1 Rock Valley South) led 28-11 at halftime and cruised from there. Brodhead junior Dana Lewis led the Cardinals with 15 points. Amanda Johnson and Megan Heller each added seven points.

Brodhead will host Orfordville Parkview (14-2, 11-1) Thursday night with a chance to go ahead in the conference title chase.

PECATONICA 51, MONTICELLO 30

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica junior Kimee Chandler scored a game-high 20 points to lift the Vikings over Monticello.

Pecatonica (10-7, 4-5) outscored the Ponies 18-6 in the third quarter and opened up a 20-point lead.

Pecatonica senior Brittany Kent added nine points for the Vikings.

Monticello (4-11, 2-6) was led by Nicole Smith, who scored seven points. Desiree Marty and senior Sarah Silver chipped in five each.

BARNEVELD 64, ARGYLE 29

ARGYLE - The Orioles faced a monumental task in playing Barneveld, ranked fifth in the Associated Press Division 4 state poll.

"(Barneveld) jumped out fast, and we were never really in the game," Orioles coach Steve Dammen

The Golden Eagles outscored Argyle 21-4 and the lead ballooned to 40-17 by halftime.

Argyle seniors Brooke Nipple and Sierra Granberg led the Orioles with seven points apiece. Fellow senior Kelsey Ostby added six. With the loss, Argyle drops to 1-14, 0-9.

LUTHERAN PREP 65, NEW GLARUS 43

WATERTOWN - Tanya Gruter and Michelle Preston combined for 28 points, but it wasn't enough as New Glarus lost to Watertown Lutheran Prep.

Luther Prep extended its 13-point halftime lead by outscoring the Glarner Knights 23-10 in the third quarter.

New Glarus (3-12, 2-4, Capitol South) was led by Gruter, who had 16 points, and Preston, who added 12.
