JUDA - To find a winner in this year's Six Rivers Conference Challenge in girls basketball, look to the East.

The East Division topped the West in five out of seven games Tuesday. In addition to Black Hawk's win over Potosi in a battle of conference leaders, Juda, Barneveld (60-46 over River Ridge), Albany, and Pecatonica were victorious. Argyle (29-23 to Cassville) and Monticello suffered the East's only losses.

JUDA 51, SHULLSBURG 20

JUDA - The Panthers (6-3, 1-2 Six Rivers East) raced out to a 19-8 lead, with freshman Ellen Kiser scoring 10 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter.

The Panthers added to their 16-point halftime lead by outscoring the Miners 13-1 in the third quarter. Juda junior Brittany Riese gave the Panthers a spark, scoring seven points in the third-quarter spurt.

Rachel Bartels added seven points for the Panthers.

"This is a nice-rounded team effort," Juda coach Curtis Brown said.

ALBANY 43, HIGHLAND 33

ALBANY - The Comets worked just a little bit harder all game.

"We got out to an 8-5 lead and kept it up until the end," Comets head coach Mike Brunhoefer.

Albany led 14-9 at the half and 31-23 after three quarters.

The Comets got solid play from its entire team. Tiffany Thompson scored 14 points, Sydney Bump and Nicolette Blumer each had eight and Hayli Peach added six in the win.

PECATONICA 59, BELMONT 45

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings rolled despite playing without All-Conference player Brittany Kent.

Pecatonica coach Mike Armitage said Kent didn't play due to an injury, but declined to specify what type of injury she suffered. The Vikings didn't miss a beat, jumping out to a 28-20 halftime lead.

"The other kids stepped up," Armitage said. "I think we just played better defense, bottom line. We at least showed we wanted to compete."

Armitage said the defensive play from Ellie Gifford and Kaci Cassidy was key.

Pecatonica junior Kimee Chandler scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Vikings. Senior Elise Sigg scored 15 points, and sophomore Alisha Esselstein added nine points.

BENTON 45, MONTICELLO 44

MONTICELLO - The Zephyrs jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Ponies worked their way back into the game.

"In the first quarter we didn't bring our game out of the locker room," Monticello head coach Paul Wedig said. "Benton was getting fast-break baskets and playing good defense."

Monticello brought the score back to 24-20 by the half and led 36-34 after the third quarter.

"It was a back-and-forth game from there, and we came up just short," Wedig said.

Benton's Danielle Dixon (18 points) hit a 3-pointer to seal the win for the Zephyrs.

Desiree Marty scored 12 points for the Ponies. Sadi Hilliard added eight, Sarah Silver had six, and Taylor Pfeuti and Mary Hershberger each had five points in the loss.

NEW GLARUS 64, WATERLOO 25

NEW GLARUS - Michelle Preston scored 14 points as the Glarner Knights rolled over Waterloo.

CUBA CITY 62, DARLINGTON 33
