ALBANY - Junior Brock Gilkes tossed a one-hitter to lead the Albany High School baseball team to a 5-1 win over Black Hawk on Monday.
Gilkes pitched a complete game to get the win. He gave up one unearned run on one hit. He struck out six and walked one.
"Brock pitched his tail off," Albany coach Mitch Heinemeyer said. "He mixed speeds up really well and threw strikes. He was able to mix in his curveball to keep them off-balance."
The Comets (8-5, 6-3 Six Rivers East) scored one run in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead.
"We did just enough," Heinemeyer said. "It wasn't our best game. We put some pressure on them early with a couple of runs."
Albany freshman Josh Dahl went 2-for-3. Senior Tyler Dahl finished 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Teammate Travis Oliver went 2-for-4.
Black Hawk sophomore Jason Treuthardt had a single in the first, which was the Warriors' only hit.

Argyle freshman Mitch Flannery came in to pitch in the seventh with two on and no outs, and the Orioles leading 4-2. Flannery pitched out of the jam and held the game-tying run at third base.

Argyle junior Cam Treuthardt had two hits and one RBI.
It was the fourth straight conference win for the Orioles (6-8, 4-4 Six Rivers East).
"Four conference wins in a row is huge for us," Solberg said. "We lost three games by one run early in the year, so we just need to prove we know how to win. Baseball is a game of momentum, and I'm pleased to see we are keeping it rolling from last week. We just need a few wins to get our confidence back."
