Gems win two state titles

The Green County Gems gymnastics level two team took first place at last weekends state meet in Manitowoc. MANITOWOC - The Green County Gems gymnastics team finished as state champions in levels one and two and had a solid all-around weekend at Lincoln High School March 17-18.

Each level is divided into age groups, which can allow for multiple all-around champions. The top individual scores for each team, regardless of age, are added up for the final team results.

In level one, which is made up of entry-level competitors, Brynlee Scace and Maddie Ruegsegger were each all-around champions. Scace finished first on the bars, second in the vault, and took third place in her age group for both beam and floor. Ruegsegger earned medals for being second on the vault, bars and beam.

Vivian Lancaster was first in the vault and second on the floor, finishing in second place in the all-around. Lauren Stetler was third in the all-around in her age group with a first-place finish on the floor and second on the beam. Anna Kate Glover was second in her all-around with a first place on the floor and third place on the bars. Lexi Larson took home medals for third place finishes on the bars and floor.

In level two, Taya Anderson was second in the all-around with second place finishes on the floor and the bars. Priscilla Smith was third in her all-around with a first-place finish on the beam. Perla Jade was first on the bars and second on the beam, Alexis Gertsch was first in the floor and third on the beam, Kaylee Holverson was second in her age group's beam and Grace Melton was third in bars.

Riley Nicholson was first in the all-around in level three after taking first in the bars and floor and second in the vault and beam. Gracie Atkinson was second in the all-around and second in the bars.

In level four, Raevynn Jackson and Katrina Sathoff each took home third-place finishes in the vault.

In level six, Kaylea Paulson was second in the all-around and first place on the floor. Karis Paulson was third place on the floor.

There were 17 teams and more than 1,100 competitors at the meet that took two full days to complete.
