Gems earn trophies in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC - The Green County YMCA Gems gymnastics team continued its successful season at a meet hosted by the Fond du Lac YMCA on Dec. 13. The Level 1 and 2 teams from Green County both earned first-place team trophies, and the Level 3 team took home the second-place trophy, out of 11 teams that competed.

Five Level 1 gymnasts competed at the meet for the Gems and all placed in at least one event. Raevynn Jackson placed first on bars, second on floor and third all-around. In the 8-year-old age group, Melanie Westgard placed first on the bars and second on the beam, floor and vault for a first-place all-around finish, while Makayla Eddy placed second on the bars and had strong performances in the other events for second-place all-around. Rounding out the Level 1 team, Desirae Signer placed third on the floor and second on the vault and Annabelle Wortman placed first with her floor routine in their age groups.

All eight gymnasts who competed for the Level 2 Gems team also placed in at least one event. Kenadee Johnson took first on the bars and floor for a fourth-place finish in her age group. Kate Kundert also placed first on the bars and floor and fourth on vault for first-place all-round. Maddie Davis took first place with her beam routine. Hailey Thompson and Katrina Sathoff took first and second place, respectively, in their age group at Level 2. Thompson earned first on the beam, floor and vault and second on the bars, while Sathoff earned second place on bars, third on floor and fourth on vault. Jessy Ruckman had first-place finishes on the bars, beam and for all-around and a fourth on the floor for the 10-year-old group. Kyla Ziolkowski took first on vault, second on floor and third on beam for a third-place all-around finish. Tess Nafzger was the first-place all-around champion in her age group at Level 2 with firsts on the bars, beam and floor.

For the Level 3 Gems, there were two first-place finishes, as well as a fourth and sixth place in the all-around competition. Ripplee Dunlavey was one of the first-place all-around champions for Level 3 with a first on the bars, beam and floor. Jill Marty also took first-place all-around in her age group finishing first on the bars and floor, fourth on the beam and sixth on the vault. Maddie Deegan was first on the beam and third on the bars for fourth-place all-around. Maddison Markham finished sixth overall in the 12 and over age group for Level 3 with a third-place vault and fourth-place beam routine, and Lizzie Snider took home first place on the beam and vault and fifth on the floor.

Heather Burkhalter was the lone Level 4 gymnast and Faith Koester the only Xcel Platinum gymnast competing for the Gems in Fond du Lac, and both earned second-place medals on the vault in their levels.

The Gems will travel to Stevens Point to compete the weekend of Jan. 10-11, and will host a meet at the Green County Family YMCA in Monroe on Jan. 24.
