EAU CLAIRE - The Fury traveled to Eau Claire to participate in a six-team tournament Dec. 27-28 and skated to a second-place finish.
The Fury rolled to a 6-2 win over Appleton United. Haley Knauf opened game scoring a goal on passes from Dani Heitsman and Zoie Steig. With 8 seconds into the second period, Steig scored a goal. Appleton then posted a goal, followed by four goals by the Fury from Heitsman, Haley Knauf for her second, Anika Einbeck and Maggy Henschler.
Notching assists were Steig, Anne Runde, Alyssa Knauf, Heitsman, Ally Burke, and Kaitlynn Beyer. The Fury outshot Appleton 56-16.
The second game of the tournament the Fury took on Beaver Dam-Fondy Warbirds. Einbeck lit the lamp midway through the first period. Both teams continued to battle but neither scored in the second period. Henschler fed the net halfway in the third. The Warbirds scored on a power-play, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Fury. The Fury won 2-1 while McKaylie Buescher recorded 22 saves.
The final game the Fury played Fox Cities Stars outlasted the Fury knocking them off in a sudden detah overtime. It was a back and forth battle between both teams. The Stars were first to get on the scoreboard in the first period. The Fury responded with a goal by Henschler on assists by Heitsman and Kaitlynn Beyer.
Both teams battled it out in the second period but neither scored. The Stars got their second goal early in the third. The Fury continued to fight and responded with a goal by Heitsman on a pass from Cammi Ganshert. The game ended in a 2-2 tie in regulation and the Stars got past the Fury for the overtime win. Based on the tournament points system, the Fury received an overtime tournament point, ensuring them a second place finish with hardware to bring home.
