DEFOREST - After getting a win at Oregon last Saturday, the Monroe girls basketball team was hoping to get a winning streak going.
Instead, Taylor Goth and the DeForest Norskies sent the Cheesemakers to their fifth loss in their last six games.
Goth, a freshman, scored 21 points to lead the Norskies to a 48-42 win over the Cheesmakers in a Badger Conference crossover game Tuesday.
The Cheesemakers trailed 17-14 at the end of the first quarter and, after the two teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter, DeForest went on a 7-0 run to take a 26-16 lead.
Monroe (4-12, 2-7 Badger South) cut the margin to 28-20 entering halftime, but couldn't come up with a second-half run of their own.
"They pressed us and we did a good job to beat the press," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "But we couldn't score against that press."
Senior Brooke McBain scored 16 points and sophomore Taylor Barrett added eight to lead the Cheesemakers.
Monroe will travel to Fort Atkinson Friday.
