SOUTH WAYNE - Brodhead sophomores Justice Tway and Parker Johnson combined to score 40 points to help lift the Cardinals to a thrilling 69-65 double overtime win over Black Hawk on Monday in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Tway and Parker each scored a team-high 20 points. Brodhead sophomore Brekan Day added 14 points, and Josh Pickel chipped in eight points.

Black Hawk freshman Conner Meyer scored a game-high 23 points.

"We have had a couple of tough games in a row," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "We had just one bad stretch. We got down by 11 points and just grinded it out. We showed a lot of character and were able to fight back. They just made a couple more plays than we did."

Brodhead went on a 17-0 run to start the second half to build an 11-point lead.

Black Hawk (8-9, 4-4 Six Rivers East) stormed back. Black Hawk sophomore C.J. Leuzinger, who scored 13 points, hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds to go at the end of the second half to tie the game at 55 to force overtime.

The Warriors had a chance to win the game at the end of the first overtime. Leuzinger's 3-point shot went off the back of the rim.

"We had a play drawn up, but we didn't execute it and C.J. had a 25-foot heave," Anderson said.

The Cardinals made 16 of 22 free throws. Pickel was 4 for 4 from the foul line in the two extra sessions.

"Josh Pickel made a lot of really big free throws," Anderson said.

Black Hawk sophomore Jason Treuthardt scored nine points, and junior Josh Meier and sophomore Jett Rufenacht each chipped in eight points.

Black Hawk will host Albany in a conference game tonight.

"We have to have a short memory and come back from this tomorrow," Anderson said. "We have played in a lot of close games. We just have to learn from them and get better."

Albany 61, Potosi 55

ALBANY - Junior guard Connor Trow's timely 3-point shooting gave Albany a spark in a nonconference win over Potosi.

Trow drilled back-to-back 3-pointers in the first half to help the Comets take a five-point lead and they never trailed again. Albany senior Tyler Dahl scored a game-high 18 points, and junior Brock Gilkes added 14 points. Trow had 11 points and made three 3-pointers.

"He (Trow) was really a game-changer," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "Those back-to-back 3-pointers were a momentum changer."

Albany (11-6, 4-4 Six Rivers East) committed just five turnovers.

"That was huge because we didn't shoot the ball well," Doescher said.

The Comets will look to build on their momentum when they play at Black Hawk tonight.

"We are trying to get a sweep, and they are trying to get a split," Doescher said of the season series with the Warriors. "It's a big conference game. It will be a good one."

Shullsburg 60, Argyle 49

ARGYLE - Shullsburg 6-foot-8 big man Joey Meyer scored a game-high 21 points to propel the Miners over Argyle (11-5, 4-3 Six Rivers East).

Meyer scored 12 of his points in the second half as the Miners erased a three-point halftime deficit. Shullsburg (14-4, 6-2 Six Rivers West), the conference co-leaders in the West with Potosi and Belmont, led the Orioles 47-45 with 4 minutes, 30 seconds to go. The Miners closed the game with a 13-4 run.

"We were playing an aggressive zone and working hard," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "We just ran out of gas. We had some good looks from the outside. They just didn't fall. They (Shullsburg) did a good job of getting the ball inside in the second half."

Shullburg 6-5 junior Hunter Matye also proved to be a challenge to defend, and he scored 20 points.

Argyle junior Collin Argue scored a team-high 18 points. Senior Riley Ostby added 12 points, and senior Kyle Emberson had 11 points.
