WAUNAKEE - The fourth graders managed to pull off a very exciting win against Waunakee White on Saturday in Waunakee. Monroe scored on the second of their first possessions on a running play by Brayden Zettle, and David Keegan did a quarterback sneak for the extra point.

The ball went back and forth for a while and then Waunakee scored to tie it up. Zettle came back with another great run for a touchdown, but we were unable to score the extra point. On the next possession, Waunakee scored a touchdown and the extra point to go up 14-13 at half. To start the second quarter, both defenses were extremely strong. Joe Hughes, a blue star player, had a great game which was noticed by the Waunakee coaches.

They eventually had to put their best player, #33 Ron Dayne's son, up against him in order to try to stop Joe from penetrating the line on both sides of the ball. Dempzy Foley also had a great defensive game again this week. After a Waunakee goal line stop of Monroe on the 1-yard line, the ball was turned over on downs and Waunakee took over.

Foley managed to break through the line, strip the ball, and jump on it in the end zone for the touchdown. The third quarter ended with Monroe up 19-14. Late in the fourth quarter, Waunakee was driving when Sam Kind intercepted the pass and ran it about 40 yards. Then when it looked like Waunakee had stopped us again, it was fourth down-and-1 to go, Keegan, while in the defender's grasp, handed the ball off to Keagen Haffele who ran for a 15 yard gain and was pushed out of bounds on the 1-yard line. Jake Meier then ran the ball in on the next play for the touchdown with under three minutes remaining for the final score of 25-14.

Pecatonica-Argyle 26, Blaze Sixth grade 8

The Monroe Blaze 6th Grade (1-1) traveled to Argyle this past Saturday and lost 26-8 against Pecatonica-Argyle. While the Blaze at times showed the ability to move the ball, a combination of six turnovers (four interceptions - two lost fumbles) and costly penalties limited Monroe's scoring to a Jaron Kuester touchdown run and McKenzy Foley two-point point PAT kick. The other offensive bright spot was Jacob Ellefson who caught two passes for 48 yards.

Defensively, 22 out of 26 players recorded at least one tackle with Jared Amacher leading the way with seven tackles followed by Brent Edmunds with six and Logan Bidlingmaier, Garret Gogin and Kuester with five tackles each.

The Blaze sixth graders look forward to playing their first home game of

the year by hosting Middleton Black at the Green County YMCA this

Saturday with a 10 a.m. scheduled kick-off.

Blaze Seventh grade 30, Belleville-Albany 0

The seventh grade team evened their record at 1-1 with a 30-0 victory against Belleville-Albany. The defense led the way, not allowing any first downs. Strong play by the defensive line, led by Joe Dahmen, Riley Buol and Sean Saxby, and improved team linebacker play and tackling were keys for the defense.

Offensively, the team got stronger as the game went along. The running game churned out 210 yards, led by Cody Wolf who gained 71 yards with a touchdown run of 43 yards. Also scoring were Mitch Swanson on a 39-yard scamper, Matt Siegel from 6 yards, and Desmond Ford from 1-yard. Carter Adkins caught two passes for 49 yards. Chase Hellenbrand converted three extra point kicks to round out the scoring.

Blaze Eighth grade 35, Sun Prairie 0

The Monroe Blaze eighth grade football team won convincingly last Saturday when they played host to Sun Prairie beating them 35-0. Alec Treuthardt lead the Blaze with three touchdowns, while Kyle Olson and Charlie Kind added six points each. Jake Hirsbrunner added to the score with a two-point QB keeper and Blake Duffy added three points with a field goal. The defense was lead by lineman Ryan Hughes, Landon Baumgartner, Troy Gorr, Michael Graham, Tony Sink, Noah Thompson and Brett Zimmerman. The offensive line played hard up front, and matched up very well against Sun Prairies big defensive line. The Blaze travel next Saturday to Mount Horeb for an 8:30 a.m. kickoff.
