MONROE - Two Monroe Cheesemakers and Pecatonica Lady Vikings were honored Tuesday by Wisconsin Sports Network Illustrated.
Monroe senior Tony Cates and freshman Bryan Tordoff were listed by the magazine as one the Top Glue Guys and Best Sixth Men, respectively. Pec senior Danielle Senf and sophomore Kimee Chandler were bestowed honors in the Best Lock-Down Defenders and Best Quicks category.
The 6-7 Cates - who had his picture on page 31 of the publication - showed his worth in the category in Saturday's sectional final victory over East Troy with a game-winning putback with 2.2 seconds to punch the Cheesemakers' ticket to this weekend's state tournament. Cates continues to play a pivotal role as Monroe looks to repeat as Division 2 champs. He averages 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. Cates is also a deft passer for his size and averages 2.4 assists per contest.
The young Tordoff plays heavy minutes for Pat Murphy's squad, especially since Brett Stangel's right leg injury continues to heal. Tordoff puts in 4.8 points per game with 2.8 rebounds.
Vikings' senior Danielle Senf will now focus on track after her final season came to end Saturday afternoon. It was a difficult final campaign for Senf who was in a scary car crash on Dec. 20 only to return to the court the next night to score 31 points versus Barneveld. Senf's speed and length created issues as head coach Josh Tarrell would let her loose against the opposition best assets.
The 5-7 Chandler improved on her breakout freshman season and set the tempo for Pecatonica throughout the season. UW-Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham should see no reason why Chandler isn't worthy of that Division I scholarship she and the Panthers offered during last summer.
