FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe High School softball team was looking to build on its resume even more for the regional with a big win over Badger South Conference leader Fort Atkinson.

However, the Blackhawks (13-6, 11-1 Badger South) proved they are the top team in the conference by rolling to a 9-1 win over the Cheesemakers on Tuesday.

"I'm extremely disappointed in our performance today," Monroe coach Joe O'Leksy said. "I just thought from the get-go we weren't focused."

It was the Blackhawks' second win of the season over Monroe. Fort defeated the Cheesemakers 13-10 April 20 in Monroe.

Monroe (14-8, 8-4) committed three errors Tuesday.

"We had a lot of defensive mistakes," O'Leksy said. "We had a number of miscues on defense where we lost our focus."

The lone run for the Cheesemakers came on junior Madison Katzenberger's RBI double that scored Lexi Hilliard in the second inning for a short-lived 1-0 lead.

Monroe out-hit the Blackhawks 8-6. However, the Blackhawks scored five runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.

Monroe junior Meredith Hose went 3-for-4. Hilliard went 2-for-3.

Sophomore Olivia Bobak pitched six innings and gave up six earned runs on six hits. She struck out three, walked five and hit three.

"I'm hoping we will rebound with our Badger Challenge game coming up on Thursday," O'Leksy said.

Monroe will host Sauk Prairie at 5 p.m. Thursday at Twining Park.
