FORT ATKINSON - Coming off a win against Beloit Turner, the Monroe volleyball team couldn't build on that momentum and lost a Badger South Conference match to Fort Atkinson in straight sets Thursday.

Fort Atkinson toppled the Cheesemakers 25-13, 25-22, 25-14. With the loss, Monroe drops to 2-7, 0-2 Badger South.

"Fort Atkinson is a very good team and tonight we just couldn't stick with them," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. "We showed more life in the second set as we started putting up some key blocks and frustrating their hitters. Our intensity was much more evident in that game."

Monroe sophomore Sydney Mathiason had three kills, and junior Chloe Schroeder posted two blocks. Senior teammate Paige Murphy had a team-high eight assists. Senior Hannah Vetterli and junior Alicia Kuester each added two digs.

Monroe will play in the Richland Center Invitational Saturday.

"We need to focus on the weekend as we head to the Richland Center Invitational, which is a tournament we could potentially do well at," Witt said.
