FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe volleyball team lost a three-set match to Fort Atkinson in the Badger South Conference regular season finale on Thursday.
The Blackhawks swept the Cheesemakers in straight sets 25-21, 25-12, 26-24. With the loss, Monroe drops to 14-12, 1-5 Badger South.
"It was a little disappointing," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. "They (Fort Atkinson) are a really good volleyball team. It's not how we wanted to end the evening going into the conference tourney."
Monroe will host the Badger South Conference tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday at the high school.
Monroe senior Alicia Kuester and junior Sydney Mathiason each had six kills. Junior teammate Alysha Witt dished out 12 assists and senior Hannah Neuenschwander had 10 assists. Senior Lexi Hilliard posted 11 digs and senior Chloe Schroeder had a team-high two blocks.
"In the first set, it was back-and-forth," Witt said. "In the second set we had some miscommunication. A lot of our mistakes were communication errors. When you have that, you will not win a match. We had a hard time reacting to some tips."
The Cheesemakers missed just two serves. Kuester led the Cheesemakers with two aces.
"We were not giving up a lot of points," Witt said of serving errors.
