MONROE - The Cheesemakers lost a tight tennis match to Fort Atkinson Tuesday, 4-3.
"The boys were pretty disappointed after the loss," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "I was figuring the match would go 4-3 one way or another, and unfortunately we came out on the losing end."
Carson Root and Garrett Tschanz, at No. 1 doubles, continued their undefeated season with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Jacob Starkweather and Marc Dahnert.
Monroe also got wins by Taylor Soddy (No. 1 singles) and Quinten L'Vonnet (No. 2 singles). Soddy won 6-3, 7-6 (5) and L'Yvonnet had a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
"The two most important shots in tennis are the serve and serve return, and as a team, we just had too many double faults and missed returns to overcome. We gave too many free points," Saugstad said.
The Cheesemakers hit the road again Friday when they play Milton.
