FOOTBALL: Reichling, Redbirds power into playoffs

RIVERDALE - Jeff Reichling ran for four touchdowns as Darlington left no doubt right away about the outcome its football game at Riverdale.

The Redbirds (4-2 SWAL, 5-3 overall) led 42-0 at halftime en route to a 55-7 win. Darlington scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters. The win clinches a playoff spot for the Redbirds.

Reichling scored on runs of 2, 2, 6 and 29 yards for Darlington, which built a 48-0 lead before Riverdale (0-6, 1-7) scored in the fourth quarter. Reichling gained 111 yards in 15 carries.

Adam Reichling (2 yards) and Carson Crist (55 yards) also scored on touchdown runs, both in the first quarter.

Darlington outgained Riverdale in total yards 332-106.

The Redbirds finish the regular season next Thursday hosting rival Mineral Point (5-1, 7-1).

PECATONICA-ARGYLE 35, HIGHLAND 0

At Highland, Lee Vlasak scored three times as the Vikings blanked Highland in a Six Rivers game.

Vlasak ran for touchdowns of 1 and 14 yards, and also returned a punt for 61 yards and a score in the third quarter. Pete Peterson scored on a 1-yard run, while Taylor Saalsaa scored on a 71-yard run for Pec-Argyle (6-1 conference, 6-2 overall).

Saalsaa finished with a game-high 178 yards on 11 carries, while Vlasak ran 17 times for 126 yards.

Highland drops to 1-7 in both the league and overall.

The Vikings close out the season Thursday at home at Argyle against Cassville.

McFARLAND 27, BRODHEAD-JUDA 12

At McFarland, the Cardinals lost for the second consecutive week after winning their first six games, while McFarland remained undefeated.

Brodhead-Juda (6-2) scored first just a minute into the game on Ethan Douglas' 19-yard run. With the failed extra-point kick, the Cardinals led 6-0.

But McFarland took the lead about six minutes later, recovering a Cardinals' fumble in the end zone and taking a 7-6 advantage.

Vinny Mazzarisi's 17-yard touchdown reception of a Beau Benner pass with 7:44 left in the third quarter pulled Brodhead-Juda to within 14-12, but McFarland (8-0) scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Mazzarisi finished with 101 yards in 11 carries for Brodhead-Juda.

McFarland grounded out 293 rushing yards in 53 carries.

NEW GLARUS-MONTICELLO 14, WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 12

At Wisconsin Heights, play didn't start Friday until the officials arrived. With no officials on-hand, the teams had to wait until a crew arrived after working the Belleville-Albany game. Then the Glarner Knights scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters and held on to the Capitol South Conference win.

The home team scored first, recovering a fumble in the end zone to take a 6-0 lead.

But New Glarus-Monticello answered right back, with Parker Havens scoring from a yard out. The kick by Logan Lockard gave the Knights a 7-6 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Ryan Bright's 6-yard run in the second quarter gave New Glarus-Monticello a 14-6 lead that held until an 82-yard Wisconsin Heights touchdown pass and missed extra-point in the third quarter.

The Knights limited Heights to 192 yards of total offense. Bright completed 9 of 14 passes for 180 yards, while Tyler Dorn rushed 11 times for 42 yards. Cameron Jeglum made three catches for 89 yards for New Glarus-Monticello, which improved to 2-2 in the Capitol South and 4-4 overall.

The Knights need a win Thursday at home against Belleville-Albany to make the playoffs.
