MONROE - Two Monroe boys basketball players received Badger South All-Conference accolades recently.
Both Monroe senior Jacob Flannery and junior Ben Latimer were named honorable mention all-conference. Latimer averaged 10.6 points per game and was the Cheesemakers' leading scorer. Flannery (3.2 ppg) often had the tall task of guarding one of the opponents' post players.
Monroe finished the season 10-14. The Cheesemakers entered the tournament with a four-game losing streak, but defeated Portage in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game before losing to Mount Horeb 66-44 in a regional semifinal.
There were two unanimous first-team all-conference players, including 6-8 Stoughton senior Nick McGlynn and Stoughton sophomore Troy Slaby. McGlynn, a Drake recruit who averaged 16 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, was named the conference's player of the year. Stoughton won the conference championship by two games over Oregon. The Cheesemakers went 4-8 in the Badger South for a fifth-place finish.
