The Monroe eighth-grade Blaze (5-1-1) lost Saturday to the Middleton Cardinals 17-8.
Alec Treuthardt secured Monroe's only score of the day when he returned a Middleton kick 70 yards to pay dirt behind blocks by the Monroe kick team. Blake Duffy added the two-point kick.
The Blaze had many opportunities to add to the score, but penalties and mental mistakes added to the defeat.
The Blaze look forward to next Saturday when they travel to Madison to take on the Spartans in what is their last game of the season.
Eastside Orange 16, Blaze 7th Grade 0
In a battle of DCAYFL unbeatens, the seventh-grade Blaze (5-2) lost to Eastside Orange by a score of 16-0.
The Orange scored in the second quarter on a 33-yard run and the extra point was good for an 8-0 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Blaze had two possessions inside the Orange 25 yard line but failed to take advantage of the field position created by Orange turnovers and came away without any points.
The Orange scored later on a 39-yard run and extra point for the 16-0 final score. Missed tackles on both touchdown runs were the difference in the game.
For the Blaze, Rhett Katzenberger, Sean Saxby, and Riley Buol had five tackles, Alex Borowitz and Eric Finley recovered fumbles, Chase Hellenbrand had an interception, and Joe Dahmen was in on nine tackles with two deflected passes.
The Blaze finish their season Saturday at 2:30 p.m. playing on artificial turf against the Middleton Cardinal Red team at Middleton High School.

The 6th-Grade Blaze (2 -5) lost to Sun Prairie 22-0.
Monroe 5th-Grade Blaze 21, Verona 0
The Blaze fifth graders (7-0) traveled to Verona to take on the undefeated Verona orange team.
In very wet and muddy conditions the Blaze moved the ball well the whole game. Scores were added by Carter Sawdey on a 20-yard interception, then Tyler Elmer found Cole Murray for a 35-yard pass play, and the Blaze scoring was capped by a 10-yard Jake Kind run up the middle. The extra point kicks were added by Carter Sawdey and a run by Jake Kind.
The real story for the offense was the line who even with the muddy field conditions were able to control the line of scrimmage with efforts by Tim Thoman, Dylan Beaver, Cameron Fiez, Kyle Walter, Ethan Coplien, Kobe Manor and Nate Smith.
The defense also came to protect the season long shut-out of their opponents and delivered results holding Verona to 70 yards and five first downs.

The entire fourth-grade football team Saturday improved its record to 5-1 with a win over Verona by a score of 19-0.
Brayden Zettle scored all of the touchdowns for Monroe on running plays.
This was Brayden's last game this season.
The defense kept the other team scoreless, with the overall play on both sides of the ball by Jamaar Manor, C.J. Leuzinger, David Keegan and Drake Ingold.
