MONROE - The fifth annual Green County Fall Nationals tractor pull event is planned for Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe.
The event is expected to draw tractor-pullers from more than eight states, according to organizers.
Event organizer Mark Hawthorn said that this year, the Fall Nationals will bring out some of the most talented and recognized names in the local tractor and truck-pulling arena. Some of the competitors are bringing more than 3,500 horses to the track that's more than 300 feet.
The event starts at 1 p.m., and the band Super Tuesday will play at 8 p.m.
Hawthorn predicts the pull will last until approximately 7:30 p.m., noting that last year, 105 entries went down the track in six hours.
The line up for the pull includes Badgerstate classes: Prostocks, Super Farm, Light Limited Super Stock, Profarm, Diesel Superstock trucks, and 466 Hotfarm. The NTPA and PPL classes are Unlimited Superstocks, Light Superstocks, and TWD mod trucks. New this year are the Diesel Super Stock Trucks, and Hawthorn said that mini-rods will be back in 2012.
Camping will be available on the grounds.
Proceeds from the event are donated to charity. In the last two years, the group has donated 22,500 pounds of food to Green Cares Food Pantry, Hawthorn said. The group gave to 14 families over Christmas last year and donated to many local benefits, he added.
During the 2010 Green County Fall Nationals, can coolers were sold with proceeds going to 4-year-old Jayda Hawkins, who was suffering from brain cancer. Hawthorn said that the Profarm Class of the tractor pullers also donated portions of their winnings to the fund, and cash donations were collected. Hawkins died July 17, but the organization was able to purchase a headstone for her grave.
This year, the can coolers will again be on sale for with proceeds going to the Green County K-9 unit.
Advance tickets are on sale now for $15. To order by mail, send check payable to: GCFN, 517 Washington St., Monticello, WI 53570. The advance tickets include admission to the pull, the band, and an entry into the raffle drawing. Tickets purchased the day of the show are not entered in the raffle, and do not include the cost for the band, which will be an extra $5.
The raffle features a grand prize of a $2,500 leather sectional from Pierce Furniture in Brodhead. Among the many other prizes are a 50-inch LG plasma TV from Fuzzy's Audio and Video, Monroe; MM55 Stihl Tiller, from Sugar River Power Center, New Glarus; two $250 cash prizes from Wyffles Seeds/Randy Bump; four University of Wisconsin Badger football tickets/tailgate party from Bud Light; and a one-night stay at Chula Vista, Wisconsin Dells.
