MONROE - Sometimes experience is everything.

Monroe's sixth-grade boys basketball team recently placed 20th in the Wisconsin State Invitational championship tournament that took place in Merrill and at Wausau West High School.

Monroe fell, 43-32, to Mayville in pool play before dropping a 55-28 decision to Onalaska in bracket pool play. The club's tourney ended with a 41-27 loss to D.C. Everest in the game for 19th place.

Monroe's squad is coached by Dan Moehn, Dave Hirsbrunner, Larry Hendrickson and Jeff Helmeid. Only select teams are invited to compete in the annual tourney.
