MONROE - Baseball fans interested in the life of an umpire and the stories he has been a part of for almost four decades will get their chance as former Major League Baseball arbiter Bruce Froemming comes to Monroe on Thursday, June 14.

Froemming, a Milwaukee native, served as an umpire for 37 years will meet with baseball fans at The Heritage Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $50 a person and $350 for a table of eight and can be purchased from Jim Ruef. The night will include an appetizer buffet with a complimentary beer and one drink ticket for a mixed drink.

Froemming has three records as an umpire, including the most no-hitters (11), League Championship Series (10) and postseason games (111), which was tied by Jerry Crawford in 2010. He worked five World Series and three All-Star Games.

Froemming, who was the oldest umpire in the history of baseball, worked more than 5,000 games in his major league career, joining Hall of Famer Bill Klem as the only umpires to reach that milestone.

Froemming umpired until he was 68 and called his last game at Miller Park between the Brewers and Padres in 2007.

He is now serving as a Major League Baseball Special Assistant to the Vice President on Umpiring.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting Ruef at 325-2682 or calling 325-5254.
