ESCANABA - The Monroe hockey co-op dropped their first game of their tournament in Escanaba, Mich., losing to the host Eskymos, 9-1.
T.J. Parrent scored the lone goal for the Avalanche in the second period off an assist from Ben Prophett.
Monroe coach Nate Brown said he was happy with his team's effort.
"The team played well," Brown said. "Some of our passes didn't connect early, but, as always, our kids played their hearts out."
Monroe hits the ice again tomorrow against Negaunee, Mich.
