OREGON - Monroe baseball coach Dustin Huffman wants to keep his top four starting pitchers healthy for the regional tournament and develop more pitchers for next year.

Monroe junior Brent Edmunds started on the mound Tuesday against Oregon, but the Cheesemakers committed four errors and lost 8-3 to the Panthers. With the loss, Monroe drops to 12-10, 3-8 Badger South.

"Brent pitched well and kept us in the game," Huffman said. "We just didn't make the plays behind him.

"We have used our starting four pitchers and their innings are adding up. We want to watch their innings so when we get to the postseason guys are fresh. Brent will be on the team next year. Logan (Weckerly) and Lucas (Neuenschwander) are seniors. We need other guys to step up and throw. We need to get him (Edmunds) some innings and a lot of innings this summer so he's ready for his senior year."

Edmunds pitched three innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked three. Monroe senior Logan Weckerly pitched two innings and gave up four unearned runs on four hits. He struck out three. Sophomore teammate Hogan Edwards pitched one inning in relief and walked two.

Monroe senior Sean Saxby went 2-for-2. Junior Garrett Gogin had a two-run double in a three-run third for the Cheesemakers. Senior Matt Coplien went 1-for-2 and senior Chase Hellenbrand was 1-for-3.
