MONROE - Eight area boys and girls basketball players have been selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game.

The boys selected include Monroe senior Michael Barrett, who will play on the Division 2 South team; Brodhead senior J.J. Panoske, who will play on the Division 3 South team; Darlington senior Alex Erickson, who will play on the Division 4 South team and Monticello senior Tyler Ritschard, who will play on the Division 5 South team. The boys all-star games will be played June 18 at the UW Field House.

The girls selected to play in the WBCA All-Star game include Monroe senior Kyleigh Sellnow (Division 2 South), Belleville senior Quinn Rear (Division 4 South), Black Hawk senior Melissa Wellnitz (Division 5 South) and senior teammate Rachel Rygh (Division 5 South).

When former Milwaukee Buck Jon McGlocklin retired from the team in 1976, his friend and broadcaster Eddie Doucette had a son, Brett who was diagnosed with cancer at age 2. McGlocklin, who was the Bucks first All-Star and played on the championship Bucks in 1971, developed the MACC Fund and became the president. The WBCA has been a supporter of the MACC Fund since the first boys and girls All-Star games in 1978.

In order to play in the game, each player and coach who participates in the game has to raise a minimum of $500 for the MACC Fund. Monticello's Ritschard already has started fund-raising. Local individuals and business owners who want to contribute to Ritschard can by contacting Monticello boys basketball coach Mark Olson at 938-4194, extension 253 or by e-mail at olsonma@monticello.k12.wi.us.
