MONROE - After winning a nail-biter on Monday against Watertown, the Cheesemakers couldn't find the magic to upset last year's state runner-up Madison Edgewood on Tuesday. The Crusaders cruised to a 7-0 win.

"This is one of those matches where you come in knowing that you are outmatched, but I was still proud of how the guys battled this afternoon," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "The scores don't show it, but there were a lot of close games in the matches and a lot of deuces that we couldn't close out."

Spencer Adamo lost the No. 1 singles match to Donovan Pfaff 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Alex Sviatoslavsky routed Monroe's Bo Bahler 6-0, 6-1. Christopher Boll blanked Monroe's Chris Andraski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and in the No. 4 singles match, Edgewood's Sean Ghanian defeated Tim Beckman 6-0, 6-1.

"Edgewood is always a sound team and I give them credit for winning the points that mattered in these matches. It's always humbling to play a team like this and it will really help fuel our focus in tomorrow's practice," Bordner said.

Monroe's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams were each swept 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Wade Sweeney and Luke Quinn nearly got the point for the Cheesemakers but eventually lost to Sam Katerob and Gavin Maloney 6-4, 7-6 (6).

"Wade Sweeney and Luke Quin had the closest match of the day. They were up 6-5 in the second set but couldn't quite close it out and ended up losing in a set tiebreaker. They had some nice rallies with their opponents and I know they're hoping to see them again in the conference tournament," Bordner said.

Monroe's busy week continues Thursday as the Cheesemakers host Milton. On Friday, Monroe travels to Jefferson.

"The buys schedule is exciting, but I am looking forward to also having some practices coming up," Bordner said.
