MADISON - A Monroe girls soccer team that has battled injuries all season lost 2-0 to Badger South Conference rival Madison Edgewood in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal Thursday, May 30.
Edgewood's Lindsay McIvor scored a goal in the 16th minute. The game remained 1-0 until the 65th minute when Edgewood's Lauren Netzel scored a goal to put the game away.
There were two 30-minute delays. The Crusaders out-shot the Cheesemakers 17-9.
"We were in the game the entire time," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "Every player stepped up their game. I was really proud of them. They made Edgewood fight for every goal."
Monroe finished the season 1-9-2. Third-seeded Sugar River's game against 14th-seeded Edgerton was postponed until 5 p.m. today.
"I think they have done an amazing job handling a difficult season," O'Neill said. "We have had a tremendous amount of injuries. We have had a different lineup with players in different positions every game."
