MONROE - Competing for the fourth time in five days, the Monroe golf team narrowly lost a dual to Edgewood Monday, April 29, 158-165.
Monroe's Matt Miller finished tied for first overall, with a 38. He was joined at the top by Edgewood's John Decker and Rogar Murphy.
It was the second top finish for Miller, who also had a share of first place at Monroe's Best Ball Tournament on Saturday, April 27.
"Miller's playing really well," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "To get a 38, it's good for us (as a team)."
Caleb Pagel finished second for the Cheesemakers, with a 40, followed by Eric Timm (42).
Timm shared the top finish at the best ball tournament with Miller, but Rindy said Timm ran into more trouble on Monday.
"Eric had a couple bad holes that were uncharacteristic of him," Rindy said.
Rindy said he hopes to have Timm back as a top finisher for the team, especially since he and Miller push each other with their strong play.
"They like to play with each other ... and they kind of encourage each other," Rindy said.
The Cheesemakers will now have three consecutive days off from competitive play, and Rindy said the team is looking forward to the break if only so they can practice for a change.
"I don't think we've had a single practice (on the home course), which is crazy," Rindy said. "We're looking forward to having a couple practices to work on some things."
The Cheesemakers will travel to the Beloit Invitational on Friday.
