MADISON - Monroe sophomore Vanessa Studer suffered a knee injury against Madison Edgewood on Saturday, and the Crusaders shut down the Cheesemakers 2-0.

Monroe (4-4, 1-2 Badger South) had scored at least one goal in their first seven games. Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said Studer twisted her knee when she collided with another player early in the game.

"That had a huge impact on our team," O'Neill said. "You just don't want to put a player back in who has an injury."

O'Neill said that she hopes Studer can play when the Cheesemakers host Sugar River at 5 p.m. today at Honey Creek Park.

On Saturday, Madison Edgewood's Kate McMahon scored the first goal at 60 minutes, 23 seconds. Edgewood's Devon Richards scored the second goal at 77:30.

"Edgewood has a lot of skill and depth," O'Neill said. "It was a struggle. We had a hard time getting through their defenders to the goal."

O'Neill said Allie Coplien, Molly Hlubek, Leeza Foley and Jessica Farrar played tremendous defense.

"They really battled until the very end," she said.
