Edgerton sinks Brodhead

EDGERTON - The middle two quarters doomed the Brodhead boys basketball team Friday night, as the Cardinals fell to Edgerton 60-49.

Brodhead led 11-10 after the first quarter, but the Cardinals were outscored 38-19 in the second and third quarters combined. Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said the Cardinals weren't as sharp in the second and third as they were in the first quarter.

"I think we started losing our legs a little bit. We weren't doing the little things well that we did in the first quarter," he said. "We went to a zone to try to save our legs, and they knocked down some three's to take the lead."

Sophomores Josiah DeLorme and Griffin Day led the Cardinals offensively. DeLorme scored 13 points, including a 7-for-7 performance at the free throw line, while Day had 11 points for the Cardinals.

"The scoring was spread across the board and that's what we'll need this year," Kammerer said.

With the loss, Brodhead's record is now 3-3.

Said Kammerer, "The kids are working hard, but we gotta find ways to win and keep improving."

Poynette 79, New Glarus 40

POYNETTE - Turnovers doomed New Glarus in a 79-40 non-conference loss to Poynette.

The Pumas outscored the Glarner Knights 26-12 in the first quarter and the lead ballooned to 26 points at the half.

"They forced a lot of turnovers and finished when they got to the basket," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "We didn't take care of the ball, make free throws or hit layups. All the things we have to do to be successful are a struggle right now."

New Glarus senior Jake Lynch, junior Martrell Dixon and freshman Landon Zimmerman each scored eight points.

New Glarus (0-6) will look to pick up its first win at Lake Mills Dec. 11. In other action, Fennimore defeated Darlington 59-52.
