Eagles top Comets; Ponies roll

ALBANY - The Barneveld Eagles rode a big first half to beat the Albany Comets 66-55 Thursday and remain unbeaten in the Six Rivers East.

Barneveld, ranked eighth in Division 5 in this week's WisSports.net Coaches Poll, rushed out to a 44-20 halftime lead to improve to 4-0 in the Six Rivers East and 7-1 overall.

The Comets were led by freshman Isaiah Shell with 17 points and senior Josh Peters with 11 points.

Albany (2-7, 1-2 Six Rivers East) will travel to Pecatonica Tuesday.

Monticello 53, Pecatonica 35

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Monticello Ponies kept pace with Barneveld for first place in the Six Rivers East by downing the Pecatonica Vikings Thursday.

Junior Lukas Kolasch paced the Ponies with 24 points and senior Tyler Ritschard poured in 16 points, while the Monticello defense held the Vikings to just 22 points over the final three quarters. Junior Karson Feller topped the Vikings with 21 points.

Monticello (6-3, 3-0 Six Rivers East) will host Argyle on Tuesday. Pecatonica (0-7, 0-3 Six Rivers East) will host New Glarus in a non-conference game on Saturday.

New Glarus 39, Belleville 30

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights earned a hard-fought win in the Capitol South Conference Thursday by turning back rival Wildcats.

Trailing 9-8 after one quarter, the Glarner Knights turned up the heat on defense, limiting the Wildcats to just three points in the second quarter and taking an 18-12 halftime lead. They expanded the lead to 30-20 after three quarters, but the Wildcats rallied in the fourth quarter to draw to within 33-30.

New Glarus struggled at the free throw line, going just 7-22, but junior Eric Felt helped the Glarner Knights close out the game on a 6-0 run by scoring four of his six points down the stretch.

Senior Braden Pittman, junior Chris Pickett, and senior Tyler Dorn each scored seven points to lead the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (3-3, 2-1 Capitol South) will travel to Pecatonica Saturday for a non-conference game.

Clinton 63, Brodhead 50

CLINTON - The Clinton Cougars used a 19-8 advantage in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and defeat Brodhead Thursday in a Rock Valley South Conference game.

The score was tied at 31 at halftime and the Cougars held a 44-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Senior J.J. Panoske scored 20 points to lead the Cardinals while junior David Earlywine added 10 points.

Brodhead (5-5, 3-3 Rock Valley South) will host East Troy on Friday, Jan. 14.
