PRAIRIE DU SAC - The Monroe Avalanche wrapped up the season with a 15-4 loss to defending Division 2 state champion Sauk Prairie Friday night.
The Avalanche played without two starters - Jarrett Warden and Johnny Kallgren - who missed the game due to illness.
Junior Gus Werhane of Lena-Winslow, and Monroe senior Ben Prophett each scored two goals to lead the Avalanche. Werhane scored one goal in the first period and added his second goal in the second period on an assist from T.J. Parrent of Freeport.
"(Prophett) has been a great force this year," Avalanche coach Nate Brown said. "For him to never play hockey, to come out is amazing. He has been so positive all year. I couldn't ask for more from what I have seen from Ben Prophett this year."
Prophett also scored a goal in the second period on an assist from Monroe senior Nick Gross. Prophett scored the final goal for the Avalanche in the third period on an assist from Monroe junior Jake Trickel.
"We were a little short-handed," Brown said. "It was good to see them come out and play and finish the season."
The Avalanche finished the inaugural season as a co-op 2-16, and Brown said he will always remember being a first-year coach in a first-year program.
"I could not have had a better group of guys to do this with," he said. "These guys are phenomenal. I couldn't ask for a better group of young men."
Brown is looking to build a stronger team in the offseason.
"We will have to have some (players) go to some goalie camps and continue the team building," he said.
The Avalanche will not be a part of the regional tournament after two players were disqualified in a game against Stoughton Feb. 2.
