Dodgers knock off Knights in nail-biter

NEW GLARUS - Turnovers haunted the New Glarus girls basketball team in a nail-biting 48-46 loss to Dodgeville on Monday.

New Glarus (2-4) had the ball tied at 46, but turned it over with about 10 seconds left that led to a layup for the Dodgers to win the game.

"We had a lot of turnovers down the stretch," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "That is what killed us. They worked their tails off to get back. We just have to finish it out. That is our next step."

The Dodgers outscored the Glarner Knights 20-9 in the second quarter and led by 14 points at halftime.

Scheele had New Glarus switch to a 1-3-1 press in the third quarter, and the moved paid off as the Knights outscored the Dodgers 19-3 in the frame.

"We picked it up in the third quarter," Scheele said. "They were flying around."

New Glarus junior Sierra Watrud scored a team-high 12 points, and senior Cassie Feller added 11 points.

New Glarus will look to cut down on the turnovers when they host Lake Mills on Friday. The Knights play two of their next three games on the road.
