MADISON - The Monroe boys track team had five top-six finishes and took 12th out of 21 teams at the 80th annual Madison West Relays Class B division on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Shell.

The Cheesemakers' 3,200-meter relay team of junior Jason Koller, senior Parker Ingold, junior Drake Ingold and junior Dylan Scace finished fourth with a time of 8 minutes, 34.84 seconds.

Slinger won the 3,200 relay (8:27.32). The Cheesemakers were about two seconds away from second-place Waukesha Catholic Memorial.

"They are ahead of their pace from last year as individuals," Monroe boys track coach Scott Mosher said. "We have a lot to improve on, but they were happy with their time."

Fond du Lac took first with 79 points, ahead of runner-up Waukesha Catholic Memorial 67.5.

Monroe's Badger South Conference rival, Monona Grove, finished third (65). The Cheesemakers took 12th (18), which was one point behind 11th-place Madison Edgewood (19).

"It was some really solid competition," Mosher said. "It was fun to get up there and compete against some of the best competition."

Monroe junior Brayden Zettle finished fifth in the 400 (54.31).

"He was just about 1.5 seconds away from the kid (Alex Klinker) of Monona Grove," Mosher said.

Monroe sophomore Jordan Montgomery took sixth in the 55 dash (6.77 seconds), which was 0.11 of a second faster than his best time earlier this year. Sophomore teammate Kyle Legler placed sixth in the 3,200 and set a PR by 18 seconds with a time of 10:16.74.

Senior Trevor Aebly finished sixth in the 55 hurdles (8.34).
