DeVoe lifts Ponies over Argyle

MONTICELLO - Senior Samantha DeVoe hit two home runs and Monticello survived a rally by Argyle to edge the Orioles 7-6 Tuesday.

DeVoe went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.

"She broke out of her slump," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "She hit the ball hard all night."

DeVoe hit a solo home run in the first inning off Argyle sophomore pitcher Kayla Butler-Paulson to tie the game at 1. DeVoe crushed a three-run homer in the second inning to help the Ponies take a 5-1 lead.

Monticello (7-4, 4-3 Six Rivers East) led 7-2 heading into the fifth. The Orioles scored two in the fifth and pushed across two runs in the seventh. The Orioles had the game-tying run at third base and the go-ahead run at second base with two outs in the seventh. Monticello senior pitcher Courtney Leuzinger struck out Argyle senior Hannah Saalsaa to end the threat. Leuzinger pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up five earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out four and walking three.

"We were going to intentionally walk her (Saalsaa), but Courtney missed the sign," Garrison said. "She threw a changeup for a strike and we decided to gamble and she struck her out."

Leuzinger also helped her own cause at the plate going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Argyle senior Amber Dammen went 3-for-4 with a double and Brianne Connors was 2-for-3.

Paulson pitched six innings and gave up five earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out five and walked three.



Pecatonica 9, Black Hawk 4

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica junior Britt Miller crushed a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Vikings a spark en route to a 9-4 win over Black Hawk Tuesday.

Pecatonica (3-8, 1-4 Six Rivers East) scored four runs in the first inning off Black Hawk pitcher Rachel Ritschard. Miller went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Pecatonica senior Emily Scoville went 2-for-3 and junior Kailee Schraepfer each went 2-for-3.

"I was very proud of the way the girls responded," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "They did a great job of answering the bell tonight."

The Vikings committed just two errors one day after making eight errors. Pecatonica junior Clara Moen pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out four and walked three.

"We played a lot better defense behind Clara," Meyer said. "That helped a lot."

Black Hawk's Sam Lovelace had a two-run single in the fifth for the Warriors.

Ritschard pitched one inning and was tagged for seven runs on four hits. She walked two and didn't record a strikeout. Black Hawk freshman Hannah Herbst pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out one and walked two.



Juda-Albany 7, Barneveld 1

BARNEVELD - Everything started to click for Juda-Albany in the sixth inning after being no-hit for the first five innings.

Juda-Albany pounded out six hits and erupted for six runs in the sixth to come back to beat Barneveld 7-1. It's the second straight comeback win for the Panthers (10-0, 8-0 Six Rivers East) in the last two days.

"We were getting bad swings and you could see they were laboring at the plate," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "I don't know what switch they clicked on. They don't have to wait so long. It would have been a lot easier on their coach."

Juda-Albany sophomore Alexis Goecks started the rally with a double. Senior teammate Molly Marass then delivered an RBI single. Junior Jessica Crull, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI, then singled. Sophomore Sara Jordan reached on an error and two runs scored to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Juda-Albany junior Danielle Dieckoff then crushed a triple. Freshman Hailey Kammerer came through with an RBI double and senior Katlyn Steinmann followed with an RBI double to give the Panthers an insurmountable 6-1 lead.

Crull hit a solo home run in the seventh to put the finishing touches on the Eagles.

Juda-Albany freshman Nicki Becker pitched a complete game and gave up one run on four hits. She struck out nine and didn't issue a walk.



Belleville 13, New Glarus 1

NEW GLARUS - Ali Kowalski went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI to power Belleville to a 13-1 win over New Glarus.

Belleville led 3-1 going into the fourth inning. The Wildcats broke the game open with an eight-run fourth. Belleville's Taylor Wallom went 3-for-3. The Wildcats pounded out 12 hits.

Belleville freshman Cassidy Heller earned the win on the mound. Heller pitched five innings and gave up one run on five hits. She struck out four and didn't issue a walk.

New Glarus' Noelle Austin was 1-for-2 with a double for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus freshman Riley Parker pitched five innings and gave up nine earned runs on 12 hits. She struck out five and walked four.



Boscobel 134, Darlington 3

DARLINGTON - Boscobel pounded out 15 hits and cruised to a 13-3 win over Darlington.

The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the first inning and rolled after that. Darlington's Mariah Wiegel went 2-for-3.

Darlington pitcher Tara Riechling pitched one inning and gave up eight earned runs on eight hits. She walked two and Tayah Paulson pitched six innings and gave up three runs.

Callie Norton hit a triple and Taylor Cox hit a double for the Redbirds.
