A car driven by Vicki Schutte, right, gets rammed from behind by another driver during the final round feature championship Sunday afternoon at the Green County Fair. The slam put Schutte into the wall, ending her bid to win. However, in the same competition during the night session, Schutte fought her way to a second place finish.
MONROE - Sunday at the Green County Fair means one thing: Cars will be destroyed at the annual demolition derby.

Thousands of fans attended the afternoon and evening sessions of scrap metal making at the fairgrounds, as dozens of vehicle's were laid - or demolished - to rest until next year.

There were nine rounds - five during the day and four at night. The final round of each session was made up of drivers who qualified from the early rounds. Drivers who qualified could choose to drive any car they owned and wanted to drive - just as long as that car had already been used earlier in the day. To win a round, you must be the last mobile vehicle with a running engine.

During the day session, Thomas Mowery took first place in the first round of qualifying with Mike Mowery taking second and Paul Heins third.

Mike Mowery won the second heat, with Rick Wishard finishing second and Timothy Gilbertson third.

In the third round, the compact car round, Damon Widmer took first with Aaron Nasin in second and Crae Riese third.

Bud Strung won the intermediate fourth round with David Widmer taking second and Steve Ostby third.

In the championship feature round, Mike Mowery took top honors and Rick Wishard finished second. Randall Gutzmer won the Best of Show award, for the top performing driver who didn't win.

During the night session, Paul Bunnell took first in the opening round with Justin Gaulrapp and Jermy Ballard ended second and third, respectively.

Mowery again won the second round with Troy Schutte finishing second and Randall Gutzmer coming in third.

Randy Rowley won the compact car third round; other round results were not provided.

In the night's championship event, Mike Mowery took first with Vicki Schutte finishing second. Adam Menehan won the Best of Show.
