VIROQUA - Both the Darlington boys and girls track teams won the Fennimore Division 3 sectional Thursday night, sending several area athletes to the state meet.
The Darlington girls had 71.5 points to beat Luther by one and a half points. The boys won with 69 points, eight more than second place Whitehall.
The Redbird girls had seven events qualify for state. Christa Wamsley (12:13.89) finished third in the 3,200 to qualify. Cassidy Chambers won the high jump and took third in the pole vault, qualifying for state in both events. The Redbirds will also be sending four relays to state. Carly Reilly, Claire Scott, Carly Langkamp, and Alison Wedig teamed up to qualify in the 4x100-, 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays. Darlington's 4x800 team of Cheyenne Wolfe, Tatum Evenstad, Christa Wamsley, and Claire Cullen won their event in 10 minutes, 9.99 seconds.
Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz also had a stellar day. Wellnitz qualified for state in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as in the long jump and triple jump. Other Warriors joining her at state are Olivia Holland, who qualified in the 300 meter hurdles and the 4x800 relay team of Michelle Flanagan, Kristin Walters, Aleigha Sigafus and Holland.
The Albany girls will be sending four events to state. Chantel Rogers made it in the 400-meter dash. Bailey Hlavachek qualified in the 800 and 1,600, as well as the 4x800 relay, where she teamed up with Rogers, Sydnee Woyak and Ciearria Mortaloni.
The Darlington boys had state qualifiers in six events. Kyle Johnson qualified in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Quinn Cullen took third in the 800 and Tyson Miehe won the 1,600. Miehe also took first in the 3,200 and teammate Garth Garrison took second. The Redbirds 4x800 relay team of Cullen, Garrison, Miehe and Dane Siegenthaler took first with a time of 8 minutes, 19.83 seconds.
Albany was the only other area team with boy qualifiers. Jose Ramirez won the 800 (2:00.66) and was also a member of the fourth-place 4x800 team that included Chad Helland, Aaron Johnson, Johnny Kallgren that finished one second ahead of fifth-place Hillsboro to qualify for state.
